Our Mission
The BEMS was founded in October 1980 (*). Together with other European national Societies, and still today, it constitutes the Belgian branch of the European Environmental Mutagenesis and Genomics Society (EEMGS).
The aims of the BEMS society are:
The promotion and encouragement of research and the study of problems related to the biological activities of mutagens and their detection, in particular those that can harm public health and the environment
The spreading of knowledge, amongst others by means of scientific meetings held at least once a year, occasionally in collaboration with other scientific societies
The association represents Belgium in the international associations concerning genotoxicity, carcinogenicity and developmental toxicity in the large sense. The association also provides scientific support in the above-mentioned domains to official authorities, educational institutions, academic and industrial research groups
